Metal and X-ray Detectability
In addition to the food-approved materials, our product range also includes metal- and X-ray-detectable plastics. The starting materials for these are POM, PEEK, PE and PA 6.
The metal and X-ray detectable materials enable manufacturers of food processing machines to handle the detection of damage and wear on machine parts made of the corresponding plastics more efficiently.
If damage or wear occurs to the corresponding machine part and foreign material comes into contact with the processed food, it will be detected early using the methods listed below. In general, metal detectors are the most commonly used devices for detecting possible contamination on the processed food.
Detection by X-rays is also possible. All materials offer the required detectability of metal particles up to 3 x 3 x 3 mm. In addition to being approved for use in foodstuffs in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and FDA standards, each material also has various specific properties, such as high impact and wear resistance and good machinability.
Increase safety and efficiency with the VMX (Visual, Metal, X-Ray) portfolio. The new VMX polymers enhance your food processing capabilities with triple detectability and double food compliance (Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and FDA).
We carry the following metal and X-ray detectable VMX plastics:
- Acetron® VMX* based on POM-C
- Ketron® VMX* based on PEEK
- TIVAR® VMX* based on PE 1000
- Nylatron® VMX* based on PA 6 E
The blue color of the semi-finished product also makes it easier to visually detect contamination, since blue food products are very rarely processed.
Metal detectable material:
- Acetron® MD* based on POM-C
