POM (polyoxymethylene)

POM (or polyacetal) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material with high strength and rigidity.

The polymer has good sliding properties and wear resistance as well as low moisture absorption. The good dimensional stability and particularly good fatigue strength as well as the excellent machinability make POM a versatile construction material, even for complex components.

A distinction is made between homopolymers (POM-H) and copolymers (POM-C). The homopolymers have a somewhat higher density, hardness and strength due to their higher crystallinity. The copolymers, however, have a higher impact strength, greater abrasion resistance and better thermal and chemical resistance.
