PEEK (polyetheretherketone)

PEEK is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with a high service temperature.

The longest known and most important representative from the group of polyaryletherketones shows excellent sliding properties in combination with very good mechanical properties even under thermal load. The excellent chemical resistance and high continuous service temperature make PEEK an almost universally applicable material for highly stressed parts.

Properties

The properties of PEEK are:
  • high mechanical strength, rigidity and creep resistance even at high temperatures
  • high upper service temperature limit (in air continuously up to 250 ° C, for a short time to 310 ° C.)
  • excellent chemical resistance
  • excellent hydrolysis resistance
  • very high dimensional stability
  • good UV resistance
  • low smoke and inherent flame retardancy
  • excellent resistance to high-energy radiation (gamma and X-rays)
  • excellent wear resistance and good sliding properties

Application

PEEK can be used in the following areas:
  • Sockets
  • Cable insulation
  • Gaskets
  • Retaining rings
  • Supporting components

Availability

PEEK natural is available in the following dimensions:
  • Round rods Ø 5 - 200 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 1000 x 5 - 25 mm
  • Plates 2000 x 1000 x 30 - 80 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 610 x 10 – 120 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 500 x 10 – 100 mm
  • Hollow bars Ø 30 to Ø 340 mm

Color variants

PEEK is available in the following colors:
  • natural (beige)
  • black
  • blue

PEEK GF30

This 30% glass fiber reinforced grade has significantly higher stiffness, creep resistance and dimensional stability than unfilled PEEK. Therefore, this material is well suited for components which are exposed to large static loads in the higher temperature range over the long term. Since the glass fibers in many cases lead to abrasion of the mating surface, the suitability of PEEK GF30 as a plain bearing material for your specific application should be carefully checked in advance.

Availability:

  • Round rods Ø 8 – 100 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 525 x 10 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 625 x 30 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 500 x 10 – 50 mm

Color:

  • natural (beige)

PEEK HPV

The addition of carbon fibers, PTFE and graphite results in a PEEK “plain bearing” type. Its excellent tribological properties (low friction coefficient, high wear resistance and high PV limit) make this type the ideal material for parts subject to wear and friction.

Availability:

  • Round rods Ø 10 – 100 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 525 x 10 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 625 x 20 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 500 x 10 – 50 mm
  • Hollow rods Ø 50 – Ø 150 mm

Color:

  • black

PEEK CF30

This 30% carbon-fibre reinforced grade combines even higher stiffness, mechanical strength and creep resistance than PEEK GF30 with an optimal wear resistance. Moreover, the carbon fibres provide 3.5 times higher thermal conductivity than that of unfilled PEEK, which in sliding elements, the frictional heat is dissipated more quickly from the friction surface.

Availability:

  • Round rods Ø 10 – 50 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 525 x 8 mm
  • Plates 1000 x 625 x 35 mm

  • black

PEEK TX

PEEK TX has been developed especially for the food industry. Like PEEK, this self-lubricating material has a composition adapted to contact with food, but offers far better wear and sliding behavior. Consequently, PEEK TX is particularly suitable for sliding and wear elements in the temperature range from 100 to 200°C.

Availability:

  • Round rods Ø 25 / 30 / 50 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 615 x 12 mm

Color:

  • blue

PEEK ELS

For applications requiring a plastic with the additional property of electrical conductivity, the PEEK ELS is used. This material benefits from the addition of carbon nanotubes, resulting in a high level of conductivity combined with a low filler content. The surface resistance is between 102 and 104 Ω. Applied in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing equipment, PEEK ELS requires high dimensional stability and cleanliness while protecting semiconductor components from harmful electrostatic discharge (ESD).

Availability:

  • Rods Ø 20 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 500 x 20 mm

Color:

  • black

PEEK ID

PEEK ID is modified with a metal detectable filler that enables detectability in food and pharmaceutical production processes. This material is so sensitive that it allows easy detection of small foreign bodies using metal detection methods. The added blue color pigments also make this material visible in systems where optical detection systems are used. All additives are suitable for food contact. PEEK ID is particularly suitable for finished parts that have high stiffness without reinforcement and must be approved for contact with food. It is mainly used when the machine speed requires high wear resistance or the operating temperature is higher than 130°C.

Availability:

  • Rods Ø 20 / 40 x 3000 mm

Other dimensions (plates and rods) are produced to order and are subject to minimum quantities.

PEEK MT

PEEK MT is particularly suitable for medical applications and combines the outstanding properties of PEEK with biocompatibility requirements (EN ISO 10993). The main features include resistance to high-energy radiation, chemical alkalis and hydrolysis or superheated steam. In addition, PEEK MT features outstanding resistance to repeated steam autoclaving without loss of dimensional stability.

Availability PEEK MT natural:

  • Rods Ø 8 – 150 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 500 in thickness 40 and 60 mm
  • Plates 3000 x 620 in thickness 12, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mm

Color variants:

  • natural (beige)
  • black
  • blue
  • white
  • green
  • grey
  • yellow

Ketron® VMX*

Ketron® VMX* has high dimensional stability and is therefore well suited for components that are approved for food contact and require high stiffness without reinforcement. The material is visually, metal and X-ray detectable, allowing food processing machinery manufacturers to be more efficient in detecting damage and wear to machine parts.
