PC (polycarbonate)
We stock PC in industrial grade (colorless, translucent) and optical grade (crystal clear).
PC is an amorphous polymer of the polyester family. Due to its low degree of crystallization, PC exhibits high transparency. The plastic is characterized by high strength, stiffness and hardness. In addition, PC is very impact resistant. In contrast to its chemical resistance, the material is very resistant to external influences such as weathering or UV radiation.
Properties
The properties of PC are:- high mechanical strength
- high hardness
- good creep resistance
- good impact strength and rigidity over a wide temperature range
- good dimensional stability
- low water absorption
- good electrical and dielectric properties
- physiologically safe (Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011, FDA and BGA approval)
Applications
PC can be used in the following areas:- Electrical appliances
- Medical equipment
- Precision Engineering
- Caps
- Level indicators
- Inspection glasses
Availability
PC natural:- Round rods Ø 10 - 120 mm
- Plates 3000 x 500 x 10 - 100 mm
- Round rods Ø 20 / 30 / 40 / 60 mm
- Plates 3000 x 500 x 20 mm
PC GF30
For higher strength, stiffness, creep resistance and dimensional stability.
This 30% glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate has the following properties compared to unmodified polycarbonate:
- very high stiffness
- high mechanical strength
- high creep resistance
- very high dimensional stability
- good fatigue strength
Because of these properties, the material is well suited for parts that are subjected to large long-term static loads in the higher temperature range. Since glass fibers tend to cause significant abrasion of the mating surface, PC GF30 is less suitable for sliding applications.
