PE500 (Polyethylene HMW, high molecular weight PE)

In applications where abrasion and impact resistance is less important, PE 500 can be a cheaper alternative to standard PE1000 plastics. This versatile polyethylene is, for example, used in the food industry (meat and fish processing). Molar mass (about 500,000 g / mole)

The features of PE500 are:
  • Very good wear and abrasion resistance
  • High impact resistance, even at low temperatures
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Low density compared to other thermoplastics
  • Low coefficient of friction
  • Excellent dimensional stability
  • Very low water absorption
  • Moderate mechanical strength, stiffness and creep resistance
  • Very good electrical insulation and dielectric properties (with the exception of static dissipative types)
  • Excellent machinability
  • Physiologically harmless (several types are suitable for contact with food)
  • Good resistance to high-energy radiation (gamma and X-rays)
  • Not self-extinguishing

PE500 can be used in the following areas:
  • Cutting boards
  • Collision bumpers and fenders
  • Shop construction

Modification options

  • PE500 Regenerat (very reasonably priced material)
  • Available in many colours
