ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)
ABS is an amorphous thermoplastic that has high impact strength even at low temperatures.
The moisture absorption of ABS is low. Special grades of this material are suitable for electroplating. Due to its high polarity, ABS can be easily painted and is therefore particularly popular in aesthetic plastic products. Its property profile also makes this material very attractive for many other applications.
Properties
The properties of ABS are:- good resistance to dilute acids and alkalis
- good oil resistance
- good scratch resistance
- high surface hardness
- good impact resistance
- high impact strength even at low temperatures
- excellent galvanizability
- low moisture absorption
- bad UV-stability
- sensitive to stress cracking
- poor weather resistance
Applications
ABS can be used in the following areas:- Components with high impact strength at low temperatures
- Pump and valve parts
- Gaskets
- Components in electroplating
- Chemical tank and apparatus construction
- Air conditioning and ventilation technology
