PBT (polybutylene terephthalate)
PBT is a thermoplastic semi-crystalline plastic of the polyester family.
It crystallizes very slowly and is therefore present in the amorphous-transparent or crystalline-opaque state, depending on the processing method. PBT stands out for its high strength, stiffness and dimensional stability under the influence of heat, as well as for its very high dimensional stability and low tendency to creep. In addition, PBT, like polyesters in general, exhibits very good friction and wear properties. In contrast to PET, PBT has better impact strength, especially in cold conditions.
PBT GF30
Modification with 30% glass fibers for higher strength, stiffness and dimensional stability.
The most common semi-finished product is PBT GF30. Due to its optimized properties, the material is well suited for parts that are exposed to high static loads in the higher temperature range over the long term. Since glass fibers tend to cause sometimes significant abrasion of the mating surface, PBT GF30 is less suitable for sliding applications.
Properties
The properties of PBT GF30 are:- high strength and rigidity
- very dimensionally stable
- very high dimensional stability
- low creep tendency
- very good friction and wear resistance
