PEI (polyetherimide)

PEI is an amorphous thermoplastic with high mechanical strength and stiffness.

Due to its properties, PEI is very close to polyarylsulfones. The material exhibits remarkably high creep resistance over a wide temperature range. In addition, PEI exhibits a high continuous service temperature, very good hydrolysis resistance and high dimensional stability. Due to its amorphous molecular structure, PEI is transparent and has a golden yellow hue.

Properties

The properties of PEI are:
  • high continuous operating temperature (170°C)
  • high mechanical strength
  • high stiffness
  • high creep resistance over a wide temperature range
  • high dimensional stability
  • very good hydrolysis resistance (suitable for repeated steam sterilization)
  • good electrical insulator
  • good radiation resistance

Applications

PEI can be used in the following areas:
  • Clamps
  • Distributor
  • Surgical probes
  • Insulators
  • Components in X-ray equipment

PEI GF30

PEI type filled with 30% glass fiber has the following properties:
  • high stiffness
  • very high mechanical strength
  • very good dimensional stability
  • good resistance to high-energy radiation
  • resistant to large static loads at high temperature

Semitron® ESd 420*

This material is particularly suitable for high-temperature environments.

Semitron® ESd 420* is the only fully dissipative plastic suitable for use in high temperature applications. This electrostatically dissipative polyetherimide form exhibits high strength and stiffness.

Properties:

  • surface resistivity: 106 – 109 ohms
  • high heat resistance
  • high strength and stiffness

Applications:

  • high temperature environments
  • extreme structural applications in the semiconductor and electronics market
